A longer journey, but absolutely worth it if you're based on Koh Tao. Here's how to do the day trip efficiently — without doubling back to Koh Samui.
Yes — but it's a commitment. Koh Tao is approximately 75–80 km north of Ang Thong Marine Park, making it the furthest of the three main departure islands. The typical transit by speedboat is 90–120 minutes each way.
Dedicated "Koh Tao to Ang Thong" tours do exist and operate periodically, but availability is much more limited than from Koh Samui or Koh Phangan. If you can't find a direct option, the next best approach is to take the speed ferry to Koh Phangan and join a tour from there.
If you have flexibility, staying one night in Koh Samui gives you access to daily departures, widest tour choice and the most value. See our Koh Samui guide.
~75–80 km to Ang Thong
~90–120 min speedboat
If you're a diver already on Koh Tao, consider skipping Ang Thong entirely — the main draws (coral reef, fish) are of a similar standard to what you'll see diving around Koh Tao itself. Ang Thong's main appeal is the landscape: viewpoints, Blue Lagoon, limestone islands. Go for the scenery, not the diving.
For most travellers, these offer the best combination of tour choice, value and logistics.
