Ang Thong Marine Park Diving Guide

A selective guide to scuba diving in Mu Ko Ang Thong — where to go, what to see, and how to get there. Updated March 2026.

Is Ang Thong Good for Diving?

Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park offers a different experience compared to the deep-water pinnacle dives of Koh Tao. Here, you'll find shallower coral gardens (10–25m), dramatic limestone overhangs, and sea caves. It is particularly famous for its soft corals and large schools of snapper and barracuda.

While visibility is generally lower than Koh Tao (averaging 5–15m), the sheer volume of macro life and the lack of crowds make it a favorite for photographers and experienced divers looking for something unique.

🤿

Best for Macro Lovers

Look for nudibranchs, seahorses, and pipefish amongst the anemones and soft corals at Koh Yippon.

Top Dive Sites in Ang Thong

Most dive boats visit Koh Yippon or Koh Wao — the northernmost islands in the park.

🐠

Koh Yippon

Famous for sea caves and swim-throughs at 8–18m. Home to banded sea snakes, stingrays, and massive carpets of sea anemones.

🧜‍♀️

Koh Wao

A sheltered bay ideal for beginners and refresher dives. Great hard coral formations and a high chance of seeing whale sharks in the right season.

⛰️

Koh Sam Sao

Dramatic rock formations and shallow reefs. Excellent for shallow-water exploration and colourful reef fish.

Typical Dive Day Itinerary

Unlike standard sightseeing tours, dive boats depart earlier and spend more time at sea.
