Ang Thong Marine Park Snorkelling Guide

The best snorkel spots in the park, what marine life to expect, seasonal conditions, and everything you need to know before you get in the water.

Snorkelling at Ang Thong — What to Expect

Ang Thong Marine Park is a protected marine environment, which means the reef and fish populations are in better shape than most spots in the Gulf of Thailand. The snorkelling here is genuine and rewarding — though it's worth setting realistic expectations compared to the Andaman Sea's more famous dive sites.

You'll commonly see reef fish in vivid colours, sea anemones, and a variety of coral formations. The clearer the water on your visit day (November–April peak), the better the underwater visibility.

⚠️

Honest Expectation Setting

Some reviewers note snorkelling can be "a bit disappointing" on rough days or at the tail end of monsoon. Visibility varies. For world-class snorkelling, also consider combining your Gulf of Thailand trip with Koh Tao.

Best Snorkelling Sites in the Park

🐟

Koh Mae Ko Reef

The most visited snorkel spot in the park. Colourful reef fish alongside imposing limestone cliffs. Clear water on calm days. Most tours snorkel here.

🐠

Koh Wua Ta Lap Beach

White sandy beach with accessible reef just a short swim from shore. Great for less confident swimmers. Protected from wind on most days.

🦀

Koh Sam Sao

The natural stone arch area has interesting underwater terrain including rocky outcrops. Less commonly included — mainly on private charter itineraries.

🐙

Open Water Between Islands

Some speedboat tours stop at open-water spots between islands where currents bring cooler, nutrient-rich water. More diverse but requires confident swimming.
